595.00 NEW LISTING This is a rare painting of daughter Elise of the composer List who got married to Gustav Moritz Pacher van Theinburg. . I do not know who the male is.They are hand painted on ivory.Elise was a singer She was also a friend of Clara Schuman and a few years ago a correspondence between Clara and some of her friends (among them Elise) was published. In the following German text it becomes clear that at some point in her childhood she had lived in the US. Reading,Phil. for 8 years but her parents took her back overseas.She took singing lessons..They say say was very beautiful.Other paintings from her exist and were sold at auctions, This was sold to me as a brother and sister.Not sure if this is her brother.The womens portrait has writing on paper on the back.They do not quite fit the frames but that is how I bought them.There was gold paper around the edge but some of it degraded.One hook is gone of the womens frame on the back and another loose.The frames are 41/2 by 3.The minis are 2 by 3.Not signed Sie wurde am 1. Juli 1822 in Stuttgart geboren. Im Alter von 4 Jahren, 1826, zog sie mit ihren Eltern und ihren aelteren Geschwistern nach Reading, Philadelphia. Dort besuchte sie die ÑTrinityís Parochial Schoolì. 1834 zog die Familie zurueck nach Deutschland und Karoline List wohnte mit ihren Kindern in Leipzig. Auch sie wurde in Sprachen und Hauswirtschaft, wie ihre Schwester Emilie, ausgebildet. Doch waehrend Emilie sich fuer diese Faecher interessierte, zeigte Elise eine andere Neigung. Sie wollte Saengerin werden. Ihr Vater gewaehrte ihr diesen Wunsch, und im Fruehjahr 1838 zog Elise zu ihrem Vater nach Paris, um dort Gesangsunterricht zu nehmen. List versprach sich viel von seiner Tochter. Sie sollte mit ihrer Schoenheit und ihrem mudikalischen Talent Ñmehr Harmonie Ñ in seine Plaene bringen. Er hoffte z.B., dass er Koenig Ludwig 1. besser in der Anwesenheit seiner Tochter dazu bringen koenne, Eisenbahnplaene zu unterschreiben. So schickte er Elise nach Mailand, wo sie eine weitere Gesangsausbildung erhielt. Koenig Ludwig 1. war von Elises Schoenheit begeistert. Er wollte Elise malen lassen und sie in seine legendaere Schoeheitengalerie aufnehmen. Dieses wurde 1844 in die Tat umgesetzt. Die Hoffnungen Elises auf eine Karriere als Konzertsaengerin zerschlugen sich bald. Sie hatte Angst in der oeffentlichkeit zu singen. F. List: ÑAls sie anfangen wollte, oeffentlich zu singen, zeigte sich, dass sie von einer solchen Angst befangen war, dass sie nur mit halber Stimme singen konnte. Am 17. Maerz 1845 heiratete Elise den oesterreichischen Fabrikbesitzer Gustav Moriz Pacher von Theinburg. Aus dieser Ehe gingen 2 Kinder hervor: Friedrich List Pacher von Theinburg und Hedwig Emilie Pacher von Theinburg.Sie starb1893.
